Renowned TFAAC Podiatrist returns from attending internationally recognised Injection Course
Renowned TFAAC Podiatrist, Dr. James Ferrie, returns from attending internationally recognised “Foot & Ankle Orthotbiological Core Injection Course in Colorado, USA.”
I am pleased to say I have just returned from an amazing professional learning experience at the state of the art Interventional Orthopaedics Foundation in Colorado, USA where I attended an exclusive Level II “Foot and Ankle Orthobiologic Core Injection Course with doctors and surgeons from around the world.
This was an incredible opportunity to work along side world-leading physicians working in the field of regenerative medicine. The opportunity to hone my ultrasound and x-ray guided injection skills will provide my patients with world-class treatment options for chronic ligament, tendon and joint pain in the foot, ankle and lower limb.
The interventional Orthopaedics Foundation is a not-for-profit educational institution that seeks to revolutionise orthopaedics by training doctors in precise guided injections utilising platelet rich plasma and stem cell to treat chronic joint, tendon and ligament conditions. Their philosophy is orthopedics needs to make the same transition that cardiology made several decades ago. With the advent of new imaging technology, it has allowed more cardiac procedures to be performed as day procedures, using advanced imaging to precisely place stents and coils without the need for open hearts surgery. This has drastically reduced complications from these procedures.
Most doctors using Ultrasound or X-ray are only able to inject basic joint or tendon injections, some don’t use any form of guidance. The skills taught at this course go beyond basic joint injections. Using ultrasound to dynamically assess the painful region provides the ability to isolate areas of degeneration and loose ligaments which will accelerate arthritis due to joint instability and cause excessive wear and tear. Once these regions have been identified, they can be precisely injected utilising the patient’s own cells. This switches on the repair process and tightens these loose ligaments and damaged tendons which is a far more holistic way to treat painful musculoskeletal conditions.
